I’ve been away from blogging at this site. I’m glad to be back and I have some wonderful books to share with y’all!
Through out the month of December I’ll be posting books about Christmas, our favorite children’s holiday books and books that make great presents to the young ones in your life.
Christmas time is a wonderful time of year but it also can be hectic, chaotic and in all of the parties, the lights and the fun, sometimes the true meaning of Christmas can seem to get lost.
My husband and I decided earlier in the year that we wanted to start bringing back the real meaning of Christmas for our family. I wanted to make this holiday season different and as Christ filled as possible. I started reading some books, doing a bit of research and I came across this wonderful book!
The ADVENTure of Christmas:
Helping Children Find Jesus in our Holiday Traditions
by Lisa Welchel
Artwork by Jeannie Mooney
ISBN: 9781590520895
Categories: Religion – Holidays – Christmas
This book is dedicated to redeeming the meaning of Christmas and it does this in such a unique way. It links our everyday holiday activities to teachable moments about Christ an helps us focus and bring Jesus into our celebration – on every level!
Here is the description of the book from the publisher:
The ADVENTure of Christmas is a guide for moms concerned that their children are losing sight of Jesus in the midst of the distractions the holiday season brings. Lisa Whelchel was such a mom, but instead of abandoning the traditions of Christmas she rediscovered their original meanings, which were intended to remind people of God’s unfathomable gift.
Hanging lights on the house, wrapping gifts, and decorating the tree have become opportunities to teach her children about how they relate to Jesus’ birth. With The ADVENTure of Christmas, mothers can redeem what’s been lost from the very symbols that are gentle reminders of the true meaning of Christmas.
For each of the twenty-four days preceding Christmas, The ADVENTure of Christmas serves as a fun and handy guide that describes the significance behind your favorite traditions. Hanging lights on the house, wrapping gifts, and decorating the tree will become opportunities to share how these customs relate to Jesus’ birth.
The ADVENTure of Christmas recaptures the true meaning of this beloved season, giving reasons to celebrate for years to come.
Lisa shares how holiday activities today can be related to Jesus and then includes fun activities, recipes and teachable moments for each of the 24 days leading up to Christmas.
The ADVENTure of Christmas is for all ages; there is something for each of us to learn, no matter what age we are. I had never thought about how so many of our standard holiday activities can be an opportunity to focus on a Christ centered holiday.
I’ve incorporated this book into our Christmas studies and we’re all having so much fun while welcoming Christ into each moment of our holiday season.

I like Lisa Welchel a lot, but mostly bc she’s practical. I don’t feel the need to do any more this year…but in a few more I suspect we’ll be checking this book out!
I liked Lisa’s other book’s, Creative Correction and Taking Care of the Me in Mommy, so I’m sure this one will be just as good. I love the idea of putting Christ back into Christmas, especially for the kids.
